art deco london; frankle trimmings, bethnal green

does anyone know how this building ended up in victorian built bethnal green?
a wealthy local business man? i guess that it was once a cinema or ballroom but it seems rather small for that? i noticed that the owner re-rendered and painted the double width shop frontage a couple of years ago, unusual to see a ground floor only building in an area that keeps knocking everything down or squashing in more and more tiny flats above and on top of every shop possible. the amazing overall design seems to have altered on the ground floor (c.1970s?) to allow for its current occupiers unbalanced apertures; a wholesale/retail trimmings company but the signage sits well on the building and also ties in with the overall brown/cream colour scheme. the building sits on bethnal green road, just down the road from my favorite cafe in the uk; Pellicci's.
