Crate Furniture Collection now available at Lifestyle Bazaar

 My 'Crate Furniture Collection' can now be found at Lifestyle Bazaar in Shoreditch. Constructed with salvaged Victorian floorboards and an assemblage of sections from vintage wooden packing crates with their original text and graphics. I've collected old crates for the last ten years from car boot sales and house clearances and started to make furniture from broken sections around a year or two ago. The 'collection' is made up of two sizes of tables, a number of dining chairs, a sideboard/cabinet and an edition of coffee tables. The found woods are cleaned and restored before they are given a new lease of life with either a natural, waxed or varnished finish.

The table seen in the pictures above has now sold but i have just finished and brand new one and delivered it to Lifestyle Bazaar today, i also have a larger 8-10 seater on its way.

 The sideboard/cabinet is 100% recycled; salvaged plywood hoarding framework, Victorian pine floorboard sides and legs, crate packaging front, vintage old stock cast iron handles found in a car boot sale, thick pine dresser top from a junk shop in Margate. Even the screws, nails and hinges were salvaged from a kitchen fitting company.

 the sideboard/cabinet has a paint finish interior and a clear waxed exterior, the handles are in the original grey finish that they were found in.

 I previewed the coffee tables at midcentury-modern; welded steel base with reclaimed heavy pine 'kiln' boards with metal edge banding, salvaged from a brick making company.

The entire collection is very limited in production due to the nature of the salvaged and found materials used in the construction. Available now at  Lifestyle Bazaar.

display plinths, tables and large christmas window 'NOEL' letters now in store ...christmas product range & lights still to be added to the unfinished display. simple graphic window in primary festive colours. the letters were recycled from my 'ally capellino' exhibition work, all of the display plinths/tables are also made of (three times-) recycled wood.

Blanchard’s own practice of turning his salvaged scrap materials into new furniture and interiors has strongly influenced his contribution to ‘Losing the Plot’. Rather than customise, illustrate or destroy Starck’s respected original, Blanchard chose to add to it by way of a second design and has produced a pair of stackable, affordable and usable chairs.

The starting point for this project was Blanchard’s amalgamation of two iconic chair designs. While many design classics are widely available to the public not all are affordable: constituent transport costs and taxes are often partly to blame. Here, Blanchard swaps plastic for found wood in the style of the Crate Chair (1934), a home-assembly chair made from a wooden crate by Dutch architect and furniture designer Gerrit Rietveld. Blanchard’s trademark metal hand-stamped makers’ plates adorn the rear of both chairs as a final signature.

the chair that i made for 'losing the plot' at lifestylebazaar in shoreditch will be auctioned off on 8th October with all proceeds given to the Children With Aids Charity (CWAC) -you can register your bid via the lifestylebazaar website in in person on the 8th. my auction lot is for two chairs - my own recycled wooden crate chair and an original kartell starck chair - both will be sold together so please put a bid in now!

New shop counter for Lifestyle Bazaar, Shoreditch

Retail sales counter for the new Lifestyle Bazaar store in Shoreditch (furniture and design retailer).
Made using an antique glass and wood framed counter with mirrored back sliding doors that i sourced on the Kent Coast where it spent most of it's life until now. It was originally made on Shoreditch High Street -just a few doors down from its current location! i made the new blue section (mdf with blue paint finish) to the same size as the original counter with a cash till area and fitted shelving to the rear. The counter was made to fit over and 'walk up' the existing stairs. I also sourced a second large vintage school trophy cabinet for use in the rear showroom space. Sorry again for my poor mobile phone camera pictures, the store looks much better in real life.
