Last Chance To See... 30 Years of Ally Capellino : Texture Study / Scrap Doors

This is the last week to see the 30 Years of Ally Capellino retrospective exhibition at the Wapping Project. it is very likely that when i take down the exhibition many of the scrap doors used in the central space might break up and not every door will be reusable, hence i've taken some pictures of details, mouldings, paint-wear the joints in the doors. all of the doors used were 'scrap' reclaimed doors, some as old as late victorian but mostly 1930s. hopefully i'm going to be able to salvage enough doors to build a tree house over summer.

A is for Ally

a fantastic film by Mike Chan of the factory in Hackey, London where a lot of Ally Capellino leather goods are made. The film was commissioned for the recent exhibition that i designed for Ally Capellino at the Wapping Project. A classic factory film that has an 'Eames office' feel to it, a big thank you to mike for putting in so much hard work! i can't seem to get the film to display correctly here as it crops the right hand edge off but you can see it in full at chanmike.com

the photo below shows the 'scrap wood' alphabet that i designed and made for ally, although i hope to add some more pictures of the show soon but if you want to see it yourself- the show runs until 27th September 09 -go and explore a great part of london, right on the water!

During September and to coincide with The London Design Festival, Ally has been invited back to her old stamping ground in Wapping to take part in a new exhibition celebrating how "Design is simply complex". For the show at The Wapping Project, Ally has collaborated with celebrated stylist and salvage wizard Rupert Blanchard, and filmmaker, Mike Chan (here, you can watch "A is for Ally"). The installation takes a playful journey through the complexities of a typical Ally Capellino design. A simple wallet begins with initial ideas and is followed through the process to final product. Visitors can commission a personalised ‘one off’ of the very piece that they have seen being made.

The Autumn Winter Collection is displayed in full and regular visits from the design team show more of the processes at work. The Pop Up Shop has a selection of Ally’s most popular styles to buy. A talk given by Ally on the 24th Sept is followed by a question and answer session

Hopefully you can visit Wapping and while you are there indulge in a delicious meal in the handsome and unusual surroundings of the refurbished Hydraulic Power Station that is, The Wapping Project.
